CoreWeave to Acquire OpenPipe, Expanding AI Agent Training Capabilities

CoreWeave Expands Into Agent Training With OpenPipe Acquisition

CoreWeave, a leading provider of cloud servers for training large AI models, has announced an agreement to acquire OpenPipe, a two‑year‑old startup that emerged from Y Combinator. OpenPipe specializes in reinforcement‑learning tools that enable enterprises to develop customized AI agents, a capability that CoreWeave says is becoming pivotal for model performance on agentic and reasoning tasks.

According to a statement from CoreWeave’s co‑founder, the combination of OpenPipe’s advanced self‑learning toolkit with CoreWeave’s high‑performance AI cloud will broaden the platform’s appeal, giving developers at AI labs and beyond a competitive edge in building scalable intelligent systems. The acquisition follows CoreWeave’s earlier purchase of the AI developer platform Weights & Biases, marking a continued push to move down the AI technology stack.

OpenPipe’s open‑source toolkit, known as ART (Agent Reinforcement Trainer), is designed to reward AI models for correct responses, a process that improves performance on specific tasks. By integrating this technology, CoreWeave intends to offer more comprehensive services that support customer‑specific training, which typically requires substantial compute resources.

The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed. OpenPipe’s team will join CoreWeave, and existing OpenPipe customers will become CoreWeave customers, expanding CoreWeave’s client base beyond its traditional large‑scale AI lab partners such as OpenAI.
