TechCrunch

Acquisition Overview

D‑ID, a platform known for AI‑driven video generation and interactive avatars, disclosed that it has acquired Simpleshow, a Berlin‑based B2B video creation company. While financial terms were not released, the transaction will place Simpleshow’s product under D‑ID’s umbrella, with plans to eventually merge the two platforms. Simpleshow, founded in 2008, operates a SaaS‑based text‑to‑video solution that has attracted a client base exceeding 1,500 enterprises, including major brands such as Adobe, Microsoft, HP and Deutsche Bank.

The combined organization will consolidate its offices in Berlin, Tel Aviv and the United States, bringing the total employee count to about 140. D‑ID’s chief executive highlighted the strategic fit, noting that Simpleshow initially approached D‑ID for a partnership and that the acquisition would boost speed in capturing a large portion of the enterprise avatar video market.

Strategic Implications

The merger is positioned to strengthen D‑ID’s foothold in the growing market for AI‑generated digital avatars used in training, marketing and sales videos. By integrating Simpleshow’s text‑to‑video technology, D‑ID aims to deliver more scalable, SaaS‑based solutions that can serve a broader international client base. The acquisition also adds a substantial enterprise client portfolio, which D‑ID expects will improve its bottom line and bring the company nearer to profitability.

Both companies see a future where interactive training videos allow viewers to pause a presented avatar, ask questions or take quizzes, enhancing engagement and learning outcomes. D‑ID faces competition from firms such as Sythesia, Soul Machine, Google and McKinsey, all developing digital avatar solutions for enterprise use. The company has raised $60 million to date and secured additional funding to support the acquisition.
