Background and Partnership

Perplexity, described as an “answer engine” that emphasizes web‑based searches, is teaming with Samsung Electronics to bring its AI capabilities to the television platform. The collaboration was highlighted during Samsung’s Vision AI Companion rollout, which debuted at IFA 2025. The new Perplexity app will be available on all 2025 Samsung TVs at launch, while owners of 2023 and 2024 models will receive the app later through an operating‑system upgrade.

App Features and User Experience

The application is accessible from the TV’s Apps tab or via the AI button that opens Samsung’s Vision AI Companion. After accepting terms, users can interact with Perplexity through voice commands by default, though an on‑screen keyboard and the option to connect a USB keyboard are also supported. Answers appear as high‑quality, easy‑to‑read cards specifically formatted for television screens. When Perplexity provides a response, it often suggests follow‑up questions, encouraging a continuous dialogue.

Pro Subscription Benefits

Every user receives a free 12‑month Perplexity Pro subscription. The Pro tier unlocks searches powered by advanced models such as GPT‑5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, and Gemini 2.5 Pro. Additional Pro features include Research Mode for in‑depth reports and the ability to generate images. Subscription activation is facilitated through a QR code displayed in the app, which can be scanned with a mobile device.

Strategic Statements

Ryan Foutty, Vice President of Business at Perplexity, emphasized the company’s mission to serve curiosity by bridging traditional search with AI‑driven interfaces. Dan Glassman, Senior Director and Head of New Business Development for Samsung Electronics, noted that the Perplexity AI‑powered app expands Samsung’s Vision AI Platform, delivering a more personalized user experience.

Future Outlook

The integration of Perplexity’s AI into Samsung TVs positions the television as more than a passive display, turning it into an interactive knowledge hub for users. With the free Pro subscription and ongoing software updates, the partnership aims to enhance everyday tasks, entertainment recommendations, and information retrieval directly from the living‑room screen.
