Apple Music Adds AI Playlist Tool and Live Events Feature
AI‑Powered Playlist Creation
Apple Music’s upcoming iOS 24.6 update introduces Playlist Playground, an artificial‑intelligence tool that creates custom playlists based on user input. Testers can type descriptive prompts—such as a genre, mood, or time period—or provide a set of at least ten songs, and the system generates a fresh 25‑song list with a custom title. Users may edit the prompt, adjust the title, and add or remove tracks before finalizing the playlist. The feature mirrors Spotify’s AI playlist capabilities and operates on devices that lack Apple Intelligence, according to beta testers.
Availability and Testing
Playlist Playground is currently available to beta participants via the Apple Music app’s new "+" button in the Library section. While the full rollout is expected in spring, the tool can already be tried by those enrolled in the iOS 24.6 beta. The service does not require the iPhone 16, the first model designed for Apple Intelligence, meaning users of earlier iPhones, such as the iPhone 13 Pro, can also access the AI‑generated playlists.
Live Events Hub
In addition to the AI playlist tool, Apple Music is adding a Live Events hub that will display upcoming concerts and gigs in a user’s area. When users open the app after installing the iOS 24.6 update, a pop‑up informs them of the new live‑event view. Although the exact design is not yet confirmed, MacWorld suggests the feature may function similarly to Apple’s Shazam concert tool.
Impact on Music Discovery
Both updates aim to enhance how listeners discover new music. Playlist Playground offers a streamlined way to explore new songs, albums, and artists, while the Live Events hub provides a centralized source for local performance information. Together, they broaden the in‑app experience and bring Apple Music closer to features found in competing services.
