New AI Startup Partnerships

Google Cloud revealed that AI‑focused coding startups Lovable and Windsurf have signed on as primary cloud customers. Both companies will run their products on Google Cloud infrastructure and use Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model to power their services. Windsurf also integrates Gemini models with Cognition’s AI agent Devin.

Strategic Importance for Google Cloud

The partnerships are a clear signal of Google Cloud’s intent to deepen its presence in the generative‑AI market. Google Cloud has highlighted that its cloud division is one of the fastest‑growing segments of the company, with recent earnings calls noting an annual run rate of $50 billion and a projection of $58 billion in new revenue over the next two years. The cloud business generated $43.2 billion in the last fiscal year, up from $33.1 billion the year before.

Competitive Landscape

Google Cloud’s moves come as it strives to compete with larger rivals such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, while also complementing its dominant advertising business. The company now works with nine out of the ten leading AI labs and claims that 60% of the world’s generative‑AI startups use its platform. In the past year, Google reported a 20% increase in new AI startups choosing its cloud services.

Support Programs and Incentives

Google’s attraction strategy includes robust support programs for startups. Through the Google for Startups Cloud Program, eligible companies receive $350,000 in cloud credits. Additionally, the platform offers dedicated Nvidia GPU clusters for participants in the Y Combinator accelerator, further lowering barriers for AI developers.

Broader Ecosystem Engagement

Beyond Lovable and Windsurf, Google Cloud announced more than 40 new AI startups building on its infrastructure during a recent forum. Notable entrants include Factory AI, backed by Sequoia, and Krea AI, backed by Andreessen Horowitz. These engagements illustrate Google’s broader effort to cultivate an ecosystem of AI innovators that rely on its cloud capabilities.
