Google Expands AI Mode in Search to 35 New Languages and 40 Additional Countries
Expansion Overview
Google announced that its AI mode for Search is now available in 40 more countries and 35 additional languages, increasing the total reach to more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. The expansion builds on the feature’s initial launch to U.S. consumers on June 27.
How AI Mode Works
AI mode lets users pose questions ranging from simple facts to complex topics using text, voice, or images. Users can upload a photo and ask where it was taken, or request visual answers such as "show me photos of the most scenic places in Seattle." The feature also supports shopping queries, enabling users to ask where to buy specific items.
Technology Behind the Service
The capability is powered by Gemini, Google’s family of AI models that underpin the chatbot experience. Budaraju said Gemini allows people to ask anything in the way that feels most natural, thanks to advanced natural‑language understanding and multimodal capabilities.
Google’s Perspective
Hema Budaraju emphasized that the expanded language support demonstrates the system’s ability to grasp the subtleties of local languages. She indicated that more languages and regions will continue to be added as the technology evolves.
