Google Launches Nano Banana 2 AI Image Model for Gemini

Google Announces Nano Banana 2 for Gemini and Beyond

Google unveiled its newest generative‑image model, Nano Banana 2, positioning it as the next step in visual storytelling for the Gemini ecosystem. The model arrives as a single offering that will replace both the standard and Pro versions of the earlier Nano Banana model across a suite of Google products, including the Gemini app, Google Search, AI Studio, Vertex AI, and Flow.

Nano Banana 2 emphasizes consistency when handling multiple characters in a single scene. Google states the model can maintain identity and visual coherence for up to five characters at a time, while also accurately rendering as many as fourteen distinct objects per workflow. This capability is paired with richer textures and more vibrant lighting, which together aim to produce images that feel more lifelike and artistically compelling.

In addition to quality improvements, the model expands the range of available aspect ratios and resolutions. Users can now generate images from a compact 512‑pixel square format up to full 4K widescreen dimensions, giving creators greater flexibility for various media contexts.

Google illustrated Nano Banana 2’s potential with several curated example prompts. One prompt produced a high‑quality flat‑lay infographic explaining the water cycle, featuring clean, light‑gray backgrounds, hand‑drawn black arrows, and soft, even lighting. Another prompt requested a synthetic‑cubism style rendering of the Museum Clos Lucé, showcasing bright colors and a 16:9 aspect ratio. A third example asked the model to depict fourteen characters and items having fun on a farm, emphasizing consistent identities across all elements.

These examples highlight Nano Banana 2’s ability to handle both instructional graphics and artistic compositions while preserving detail and consistency. Google indicated that the model will serve as the image generator for the Fast, Thinking, and Pro settings within the Gemini app and on the Gemini website. Although a separate “Pro” variant has not been announced, Google suggests that future releases may expand the model family incrementally.

Overall, Nano Banana 2 represents Google’s commitment to advancing generative‑AI capabilities, offering creators a more powerful tool for producing high‑fidelity visual content across a broad spectrum of applications.
