TCL Launches Nxtpaper 5G Junior Kids Phone with Monochrome Mode
Introducing the Nxtpaper 5G Junior
TCL unveiled the Nxtpaper 5G Junior at the IFA trade show as a new smartphone aimed at children and their parents. Building on the company’s years of experience with E‑Ink‑inspired Nxtpaper devices, the Junior adds a dedicated Max Ink Mode. This button‑activated feature transforms the matte display into a monochromatic, E‑Ink‑like view that is easier on the eyes for reading and reduces screen glare.
Beyond the visual mode, the phone is equipped with a suite of parental‑control tools powered by Google’s Family Link. Parents can manage app access, set screen‑time limits, and enable a “Digital Detox” mode designed to encourage healthier phone habits. The device ships with a protective case and a playful set of AI Genius Squad characters to appeal to younger users.
Hardware and Design
The Nxtpaper 5G Junior sports a 6.7‑inch screen housed within a bulky, sturdy chassis that may be challenging for very small hands. It offers 256 GB of internal storage, sufficient for apps and games, and includes dual rear cameras for basic photography. The Max Ink Mode also extends battery life by reducing the display’s power draw.
Pricing and Availability
While the Junior will be available in Europe later in the year, TCL has not announced plans for a U.S. launch. The phone is positioned as an affordable option for families seeking a child‑friendly device with eye‑health features.
Nxtpaper 60 Ultra Launch
In tandem with the Junior, TCL announced the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra, the first smartphone to ship with the latest Nxtpaper 4.0 technology. This model features a larger 7.2‑inch display with reduced glare and flicker, a triple rear‑camera setup that includes a 50‑megapixel telephoto lens, and optional stylus support for note‑taking and drawing. The Ultra is slated for release in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Both devices underscore TCL’s commitment to expanding the Nxtpaper line beyond niche markets, targeting families, health‑conscious users, and those who value long battery life and reduced eye strain.
