Ocado’s Luton fulfillment center uses a network called the Grid, where hundreds of autonomous robots move grocery trays under central computer control. New On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP) arms, equipped with suction cups and cameras, have already packed over 30 million orders and now handle about 40 percent of items, with a goal of reaching 80 percent within the next two to three years. The company plans to install nearly 500 arms by year‑end and is developing specialized attachments for challenging products like wine bottles while leaving items such as watermelons to human workers. Ocado continues to sell its automation technology to major retailers worldwide and is exploring further robot‑assisted tasks, though full driverless delivery remains a longer‑term prospect.
