DuckDuckGo Expands Subscription to Include Latest AI Chatbots While Maintaining Privacy Protections

Subscription Rebranding and Pricing

DuckDuckGo has renamed its Privacy Pro subscription to the DuckDuckGo subscription, keeping the same pricing structure of $10 per month or $100 billed annually. The rebranding reflects a shift toward providing subscribers with access to a broader suite of AI chatbots while preserving the core privacy tools that users rely on, such as the company’s VPN, personal information removal, and identity protection services.

Expanded AI Model Access

Since the start of last summer, DuckDuckGo’s Duck.ai feature has let users interact with a handful of AI chatbots from OpenAI, Anthropic and other providers directly through its browser, emphasizing privacy. The updated subscription now adds the latest models, including OpenAI’s GPT‑4o and GPT‑5, Anthropic’s Sonnet 4.0, and Meta’s Llama 4 Maverick. These additions are offered without sacrificing the company’s privacy guarantees.

Privacy Guarantees Remain Intact

All conversations conducted through Duck.ai remain anonymized, and DuckDuckGo explicitly states that user data will not be used to train future AI systems. This commitment aligns with the company’s broader privacy‑first philosophy that underpins its browser and other services.

Free Tier Continues Unchanged

The base version of Duck.ai stays free to use, requiring no account and retaining the same functionality as before. Users who do not wish to engage with the new AI perks can simply hide all AI buttons in the browser’s search, desktop, and mobile settings.

Future Plans

DuckDuckGo notes that it is exploring the possibility of higher‑tier subscription options that could provide access to even more advanced AI models down the line, indicating a continued focus on expanding AI capabilities while safeguarding user privacy.
