Integration Overview

Anthropic announced that its Claude AI assistant is now integrated with Microsoft 365 services. The new connector allows Claude to surface information directly from Word documents, Microsoft Teams messages, and Outlook emails during chatbot conversations. By linking to SharePoint and OneDrive, Claude can search and analyze files without users having to upload them manually.

Availability and Administration

The Microsoft 365 connector is currently available for all Claude Team and Enterprise plan subscribers. However, administrators must enable the integration before end users can connect their Microsoft accounts.

Outlook and Teams Capabilities

With the Outlook integration, Claude can access email threads and evaluate communications to provide relevant context in its responses. In Teams, Claude can search through chat conversations, channel discussions, and meeting summaries, bringing pertinent information into the dialogue.

Enterprise Search Feature

Anthropic also launched an enterprise search feature within Claude. This tool simplifies searching across a company’s diverse data sources, aiding tasks such as onboarding new employees, analyzing customer‑feedback patterns, and identifying internal experts.

Technical Foundations

The integration operates through Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector, an open‑source standard for linking AI applications with external data sources and apps. Microsoft has expressed a commitment to using MCP broadly, including in future Windows developments aimed at creating AI‑centric PCs.

Microsoft’s Growing Use of Anthropic Models

Microsoft continues to incorporate Anthropic’s models into its own AI offerings. The models support Copilot Researcher, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, and a new Office Agent that can generate Word and PowerPoint documents via Microsoft’s Copilot chat interface.
