Introducing Claude Cowork

Anthropic has released Claude Cowork as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers. The AI‑driven personal assistant runs on macOS and Windows computers and eliminates the need for the technical setup required by earlier solutions such as OpenClaw.

How It Works

Users grant Claude Cowork access to their files and then issue a command. The assistant can open files, browse the web, click through applications, and run developer tools. When a connector exists for a service—such as Gmail, Google Drive, or Slack—Claude uses that integration. If no connector is available, Claude takes direct control of the browser, mouse, and keyboard to complete the task.

Safety and Control

Claude Cowork always asks permission before accessing a new app or file, and users can stop the assistant at any point. This design addresses safety concerns that have been raised about autonomous AI assistants.

Practical Use Cases

Examples of tasks include resizing images in a folder, renaming files, or scraping the internet for a list of local ice‑cream parlors. The assistant performs these actions without further user input after the initial command.

Extended Capabilities

Claude Dispatch lets users send commands from a mobile device to the Claude desktop, enabling workflow continuity from office to home. Claude Channels adds the ability to push events from platforms like Telegram or Discord into a Claude Code session, and users can schedule recurring tasks such as daily email summaries, weekly reports, or industry‑news tracking. When a scheduled task completes, Claude sends a notification.

Learning and Memory

Claude Cowork retains context across sessions, learning how each user works over time to improve assistance.
