Anthropic’s Claude Services Experience Widespread Outage Amid Growing User Demand

Widespread Disruption Affects Claude Services

Anthropic experienced widespread disruptions on Monday morning, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing its Claude services. The outage appeared to affect both Claude.ai and Claude Code, while the Claude API continued to operate as intended. Users primarily encountered errors when attempting to log in, and a screenshot of the issue was shared publicly.

According to Anthropic’s status page, “The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths.” The company confirmed that it had identified the problem and was working on a fix.

Surge in User Interest

The disruption came at a time when Claude was seeing an influx of users. The chatbot app rose to the top of the App Store charts, overtaking rival ChatGPT after a period of lower rankings. This heightened visibility was linked to ongoing attention surrounding Anthropic’s negotiations with the Pentagon.

Government Scrutiny Over AI Use

U.S. President Donald Trump recently instructed federal agencies to stop using Anthropic products after a dispute over safeguards intended to prevent the Department of Defense from employing Anthropic’s AI models for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth indicated he would designate the company as a supply‑chain threat, though Anthropic noted it had not yet received any formal notices.

Anthropic’s response to the outage and the broader regulatory conversation underscores the challenges AI firms face as they balance rapid user growth with governmental oversight and technical reliability.
