Dropbox announced that its AI‑powered Dash features are being incorporated directly into the main Dropbox app. The move enables users to access a smarter search function, request summaries, and receive contextual answers from the files stored in their accounts, all through natural‑language queries.

From Separate Tool to Core Functionality

Originally launched as an "AI‑powered universal search bar," Dash allowed users to locate information across work‑related apps such as Slack, Canva, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Outlook. It was primarily aimed at larger businesses using Dropbox. The new integration expands this capability to a broader user base by embedding the technology within the primary Dropbox interface.

Current Availability

For now, the AI‑driven features are being tested with a small group of users. Dropbox plans to make the functionality widely available in the coming months. Interested users can sign up for a waitlist to gain early access.

Future Enhancements

Dropbox is collaborating with startup Mobius Labs to add AI search capabilities for video, audio, and image content. These expanded features are slated to arrive soon, further enhancing the range of searchable file types.

Broader Access to Dash

In parallel with the main‑app integration, the Dash app itself is now offered to teams of all sizes, even those without a Dropbox plan, ensuring that the AI tools are accessible to a wide audience.
