New AI Agents Available on GitHub

GitHub announced that developers on its Pro+ and Enterprise plans can now choose between three AI coding assistants: the existing Copilot, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s Codex. The agents are built into the GitHub web interface, the mobile app, and the Visual Studio Code extension, allowing a seamless cross‑client experience.

How Developers Interact with the Agents

Users can assign an agent by clicking the Copilot icon in the input field or by selecting the desired model from the Agents tab in an enabled repository. In addition, developers can mention an agent in comments using @copilot, @claude or @codex, making AI collaboration feel like working with human teammates.

Pricing and Request Consumption

During the public preview, each agent session consumes one premium request. Access is not unlimited; formal pricing will be established later. The integration lets multiple agents be used together to draft pull requests or leave review comments.

Future Agent Additions

GitHub’s Chief Product Officer confirmed that more agents are in the pipeline, including collaborations with Google, Cognition and xAI. This expansion aims to give developers the reasoning power they need, right where they write code.

Company Statements

Anthropic’s Head of Platform, Katelyn Lesse, said, "Our goal is to give developers the reasoning power they need, right where they need it." OpenAI’s product member, Alexander Embiricos, added, "Codex helps engineers work faster and with greater confidence—and with this integration, millions more developers can now use it directly in their primary workspace."
