Google Discover Introduces Follow Button and Expands Content Sources
New Follow Feature
Google Discover is adding a follow button to each content card, positioned at the top right. Tapping the button opens a preview page that shows typical content from the selected publisher or creator, allowing users to decide whether to follow the outlet. Once followed, future Discover cards will prioritize that source.
Expanded Content Mix
The feed will now include a broader range of media, combining traditional web articles with YouTube videos and social posts from X and Instagram. This diversification aims to give users a richer, more varied information experience without leaving the Discover interface.
Rollout and Availability
Testing across multiple phones shows the feature is still in the rollout phase. Early adopters can already see the follow button and the mixed content, but full deployment is expected over the next several weeks. The updates are being delivered to the Google app and to Android phones that have Discover built into their home screens.
User Impact
By letting users follow specific publishers and creators, Discover becomes more personalized and controllable. The inclusion of video and social media content reduces the need to open other apps, streamlining the browsing experience. As the rollout expands, users can expect a more dynamic and customizable feed.
