Google’s NotebookLM now enables users to convert their research and notes into fully animated "cinematic" video overviews. Unlike the earlier version, which produced simple narrated slide shows, the upgraded capability creates rich, animated visuals that align with the content of the notes.

Technology Behind the Videos

The cinematic videos are generated through a combination of Google’s AI models, specifically Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3. Gemini is tasked with determining the optimal narrative, visual style, and format, and it also refines its own output to maintain consistency throughout the video.

Availability and Limits

The new cinematic video overviews are available in NotebookLM starting today, but they are currently limited to English language users who are over 18 and have a Google AI Ultra subscription. Each user can create a maximum of 20 cinematic video overviews per day.

Context Within Google’s AI Video Roadmap

This release follows a series of recent AI video updates from Google. Last month, the company upgraded its Veo AI video model and broadened access to Flow, its AI video‑generating tool. Google also demonstrated a new "Project Genie" AI video generator, which Verge reporter Jay Peters used to produce short knock‑off slices of Nintendo games. The cinematic video feature in NotebookLM represents the latest step in Google’s effort to integrate advanced AI capabilities into everyday productivity tools.
