The feature was initially piloted in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. During the trial, users could start a new chat and invite up to twenty participants, either by using existing ChatGPT accounts or by sending an invitation link that allows recipients to join after creating an account. Privacy and Control Mechanisms

OpenAI states that the content of group chats is not stored in the model’s long‑term memory, ensuring that conversation details are not retained beyond the session. Participants have the ability to remove other members from the chat, with the exception that only the chat’s creator can modify certain settings.
