Perplexity Launches Personal Computer AI Agent for Mac Mini and Expands Enterprise Offerings
Personal Computer AI Agent for Mac Mini
At its developer conference, Perplexity introduced Personal Computer, a software layer that runs continuously on a user‑supplied Mac mini. The system merges local files, applications and sessions with Perplexity’s cloud‑based Computer platform, giving the AI persistent, always‑on access to Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Notion, Salesforce and other services. Sensitive actions require explicit user approval, each session generates a full audit trail, and a kill switch provides immediate control. The offering is available only to Perplexity Max subscribers, priced at $200 per month and including 10,000 monthly compute credits. A waitlist is open, and Perplexity emphasizes that the Mac mini serves as the host while the AI software runs remotely.
Enterprise Version with Enhanced Controls
Perplexity also announced a version of its Computer platform aimed at enterprise customers. This edition adds SOC 2 Type II compliance, SAML single sign‑on, detailed audit logs and isolated sandboxing for each query. The platform connects natively to Snowflake, Salesforce, HubSpot and hundreds of other enterprise tools, allowing teams to query data warehouses, pull CRM context and build financial models without waiting on a separate data or analytics team. Enterprise users can interact with Computer directly inside Slack via direct messages or shared channels.
Finance Data Tools and Developer APIs
The conference highlighted a significant expansion of Perplexity Finance. The company reports that 75% of its users already ask finance‑related questions each month, and Computer now has direct access to more than 40 live data tools pulling from SEC filings, FactSet, S&P Global, Coinbase, LSEG and Quartr. No additional licence or API key is required, and every figure is traceable to its source, enabling the creation of interactive dashboards, Excel models and full financial applications. For developers, Perplexity announced new APIs that extend the existing usage‑based API introduced at the February launch of Perplexity Computer.
Strategic Focus on AI Orchestration
Perplexity’s strategy centers on providing orchestration across multiple frontier models rather than relying on a single provider’s stack. Internal usage data cited by VentureBeat shows a shift from 90% of enterprise queries routed to just two AI models in early 2025 to a more distributed usage pattern by the end of the year. The company positions this flexibility as a competitive advantage for enterprises that need the best model for each task. However, analysts note the challenge of convincing customers to pay $200 per month for a service that does not build its own frontier models, emphasizing the importance of the orchestration value proposition.
