What the AI Tuner Does

Pinterest’s latest tool, described as an “AI tuner,” gives users the ability to “dial down the AI” in their personal feed. By adjusting settings, users can choose which categories they want to see more or fewer AI‑generated images. The tuner applies only to “eligible image Pins” in categories that are most likely to contain AI content, specifically beauty, art, fashion and home decor.

Where to Find the Feature

The tuner is located in the Pinterest settings page under the section titled “refine your recommendations,” within a tab called “GenAI interests.” It is already available to users on Android devices and desktop browsers. iPhone users will receive the feature in the coming weeks, according to the company.

Background on Pinterest’s AI Efforts

Pinterest first tackled the rise of AI‑generated content—sometimes humorously referred to as “Pinfestation”—in May by adding an automated “AI modified” label to the bottom left‑hand corner of Pins. The company says it has since ramped up its detection tools and is working to make those labels more noticeable, although it has not disclosed further details about the updates.

Implications for Users

The AI tuner does not promise a completely AI‑free feed; instead, it offers a way for users to reduce the prevalence of AI‑generated images in the categories they care about most. This approach reflects Pinterest’s broader strategy of giving users more control over the content they encounter while continuing to improve its AI detection and labeling mechanisms.
