New Group Chat Functionality Launch

Poe, the AI platform developed by Quora, announced that it will support group chats for users across the globe. The feature enables a single conversation to include up to 200 other people, letting participants work together in real time.

Within these group threads, users can call upon more than 200 AI models spanning text, image, video and audio generation. The integration allows a seamless blend of different AI capabilities, such as searching with Gemini 2.5, deep research tools, image generation for mood boards, or trivia bots for games.

Context and Competitive Landscape

The introduction of group chats comes shortly after OpenAI began piloting similar functionality for its ChatGPT service in markets like Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Taiwan. By expanding collaborative AI interactions, Poe aims to differentiate itself and broaden the ways users can engage with artificial intelligence.

Potential Use Cases

Quora highlighted several scenarios where group chats could add value. Families might plan trips together using AI-powered search, while creative teams could brainstorm visual concepts by leveraging multiple image models in a single discussion. Groups could also enjoy interactive experiences such as trivia games powered by specialized bots.

The platform supports both built‑in models and creator‑made bots, including notable examples like Claude 4.5 Sonnet, Eleven Labs v3, Eleven Labs Music, Nano Banana, GPT‑5.1, Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro, o3 Deep Research, Sora 2 Pro and Veo 3.1. Users can start a group chat from Poe’s home screen on the website, and the chat history syncs across devices, allowing a smooth transition between desktop and mobile.

Development and Future Plans

Quora spent six months developing the group chat capability and plans to refine the experience based on user feedback in the weeks after launch. The company emphasized the untapped potential of AI‑mediated group interactions and invited users to experiment with custom bots shared within groups.
