Broad Availability on macOS

The Browser Company announced that its AI‑powered browser, Dia, is now available for download to all Mac users without the need for an invitation. The release applies to Macs equipped with an M1 chip or later and running macOS 14 or newer. Earlier this year the software entered a private beta phase that began in June, following its initial public reveal at the close of the previous year.

Integrated AI Capabilities

Dia places artificial intelligence at the core of the browsing experience. A built‑in chatbot lives in every open tab, allowing users to conduct web searches, compare websites, and receive answers to questions about the content displayed on the current page. Additional features include an inline copy editor and the ability to summarize text directly on the page, eliminating the need for copy‑pasting into separate tools. The AI can also advise users against costly purchases when prompted.

Shift from Arc to Dia

The Browser Company previously developed the Arc browser, which garnered a dedicated user base. In May, the company announced a strategic shift to concentrate exclusively on Dia, citing comments from CEO Josh Miller that Arc “lacked cohesion, in both its core features and value.” Miller described Arc as “too different” for broad adoption, though the company pledged to continue providing security updates for existing Arc users.

Acquisition by Atlassian

Atlassian acquired The Browser Company in a transaction valued at approximately $610 million, with the deal slated to finalize by the end of 2025. The agreement permits The Browser Company to operate independently while focusing on Dia’s development. Company statements indicated that the acquisition would enable a more aggressive rollout of the AI browser.

Future Platform Plans

While no specific timeline has been provided for a Windows version of Dia, the company’s history of eventually bringing Arc to Windows suggests that a cross‑platform release may be considered in the future.
