Meta AI’s Growing Presence

Meta AI has been integrated into the core Meta apps—Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp—where it offers on‑demand assistance, generates comment summaries, and provides suggested replies. While the technology aims to streamline interactions, many users find the constant prompts and summaries distracting.

Muting Meta AI on Instagram

Instagram users can silence the AI by opening the chat that appears in the suggested section, accessing the chat’s information menu, and selecting the mute option. Users can also hide message previews to further reduce visibility.

Disabling AI Features on Facebook

On Facebook, the AI not only appears in the search bar but also scans comments to create summaries. To stop these summaries, users navigate to their settings, locate the audience and visibility section, and toggle off the option for comment summaries. Muting the AI chat follows a similar process through the Messenger icon, opening the AI chat, and selecting mute.

Turning Off Meta AI in Messenger

Messenger users can mute the AI by tapping the chat icon, opening the AI conversation, and using the mute function found in the chat’s information menu. This action also applies to the comment‑summary feature on Facebook.

Silencing Meta AI on WhatsApp

WhatsApp requires users to start a conversation with the AI first. After sending any message, users return to the chat list, swipe the AI conversation, choose the more options, and select mute. This prevents further AI prompts while keeping the chat accessible for future use.

Why Muting Is the Only Option

Currently, Meta does not provide a way to uninstall or fully disable the AI across its platforms. Muting the chat and turning off related features is the recommended method for users who prefer not to interact with the AI.
