Tesla is breaking up the team behind its Dojo AI training supercomputer, ending the automaker’s in‑house chip effort for driverless technology. Dojo lead Peter Bannon is departing, and remaining staff will be reassigned to other data‑center and compute projects. The move follows the exit of about 20 workers who left to launch the stealth AI startup DensityAI. Tesla is increasing reliance on external partners such as Nvidia, AMD and Samsung, and has recently signed a multi‑billion‑dollar deal with Samsung for AI6 inference chips. The shift marks a major strategic change for Elon Musk’s AI ambitions, including robotaxi plans.
